Phonat – Set Me Free (video)

Though everyone's talking about Drop the Lime's new tune of the same name featuring the amazing Carrie Wilds on vocals, producer Phonat has his own "Set Me Free", which couldn't be any more different genre wise.

A retro guitar driven hook with chopped vocals and a catchy melody, fans of DatA, Ratatat, and Alex Metric will love Phonat. The tune easily crosses over into pop but still has a fresh feel. Equally, the video is visually eye-popping with some really great animation and editing.

Pick up the tune plus the rest of the release on iTunes now.

Thanks to Matt Ashley for the heads up!

We've got the latter for you tonight for your listening and spinning pleasure. Of course Harvard Bass is in full form here, with his massive lean production.

Groove Armada – I Won’t Kneel (video)

Groove Armada are back with their new single "I Won't Kneel" featuring the vocal style of SaintSavior. It's the first release of the duo's upcoming new album Black Light out February 23, 2010 in the US.

"I think even people who've hated everything we've ever made before could absolutely love this record. I'm incredibly proud of it. If I could leave just one album of ours behind, there is absolutely no question as to which one it would be." - Andy Cato of Groove Armada

The guys say they didn't want to rehash their old sound, saying that would be too easy, and instead were inspired by many of the performers this year at their Lovebox music festival. Andy explains "They're the ones really leading the charge, making genuinely exciting, dance-informed music. And that sound really pushed us back towards people like Bowie, Gary Numan, New Order, Fleetwood Mac and Roxy Music."

You can pick up the new single, including remixes from Mock & Toof, the Bloody Beetroots, and more on iTunes now.

Charlie Tippie – Vocaloid (Terror Dactel Mix)

vocaloid

Been really excited to share this! Subdrive homey Terror Dactel and our newly anointed house MC, Charlie Tippie, teamed up to rework Charlie's original minimal hip-hop tune "Vocaloid" (originally produced by Ming of Ming & FS). A departure from Terror's recent work, the tune actually flips back to his original hip-hop production and is a hint of what's to come from these two artists.

Expect to hear new Terror Dactel tunes soon, including an EP from Charlie on Subdrive in 2010.

We've been pretty busy! We're psyched to announce two showcases going on during CMJ. First up we've teamed up with our friends at The Culture of Me and Sheena Beaston. Half the roster will be throwing a big dance party right after a band showcase at Greenpoint's Europa. You'll find the Subdrive crew Viking, VDRK, Terror Dactel, Mr Vega, and others spinning that night.
